Week Seven – Project Update Summary

Overall, I have made some progress on my health behavior change. The first month consisted of nothing really; I hardly meditated at all during that time. Two weeks ago, I did start (finally), and it’s made enough of a difference that I want to continue.

I often just felt that I couldn’t bring myself to sit down and silence the world around me in favor of just watching myself instead. I would have rather watched a video on my phone, or done something else to distract me. Honestly, I was going through a rough period of transitioning back to school, transitioning to a new living situation (hello, figuring out how to live full time with my partner), and going through some emotional instability. Ironically, if I had sat down and meditated, I probably would have seen some of the distress I was facing a little better than I already had.

Moving ahead, I’ve decided to decide. I have to decide to maintain this, which is one of my biggest struggles. I love to start things and never finish, so this is a great way to step up to myself, lean into my edge, and try to commit. Realistically, I have a better plan, which is to set a nightly reminder of when it’s time to meditate, plan my nights around meditating, and decide to do it. Just decide. What has been working so far are my meditation aids, like malas and my meditation seat (which I absolutely LOVE using), to encourage me to continue with the practice.

So, here I go. 11:01 PM, time to meditate.

Namaste,

Jennifer
